Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) Therapy

FSM therapy gained wide spread popularity in the US after laboratory trials showed that it increased cellular energy production up to 500% (5 times!!!), which indicated an astonishing acceleration of tissue regeneration. The same research also concluded that the currents produced by conventional TENS machines and electro-acupuncture devices, practically stopped cellular function, and halted tissue regeneration. Consequently, TENS machines, and other conventional electro-acupuncture devices are contraindicated in the treatment of chronic pain and injury, so we do not use them, and do not recommend using them.

How we do it

An FSM treatment is the application of an extremely minute but specific frequency electrical current onto a target tissue, which is usually an inflamed, damaged muscle or joint. Because micro-currents are under our sensory threshold, the treatments are entirely painless.

To overcome the high electrical resistance of the skin, we combine FSM with acupuncture. The extremely fine, but highly conductive acupuncture needles deliver the required current right to the target tissue.
We usually use either high conductivity pads over the needles, or attach a conductive clip directly to the needles.
In case acupuncture is not indicated for any reason, we use high tech probes for similar effects.

What are micro-currents?

In the 90's two German scientists received Nobel Prize for proving that all body cells (not only nerve cells) function on electrical currents. These currents were found to be in the nano-amp range which is 10 billionth of our household currents. Presently, we have not yet developed a device which would be able to emit these currents reliably and deliver it to human cells.

However, laboratory experiments showed that micro-currents, which are 10 millionth of household currents, are able to trigger the increase of nano currents, and thereby increase cellular energy output up to 500% (5 times!!!). This dramatic increase of intra-cellular electrical activity suggested that FSM therapy may be the ultimate key to reversing chronic degenerative diseases.

Clinical applications

Clinical trials on FSM have reported significantly accelerated recovery from injuries, marked reduction of pain, and a decrease in scar tissue formation. However, the results were far from the expectations. This is due to the high electrical resistance of the human skin, which prevented the current from reaching the target tissue. The present day challenge is, therefore, how to deliver the appropriate frequency micro-current exactly to the target tissue. In our clinic, we combine FSM therapy and acupuncture to overcome this problem.
